Consultations and Prices

Currently

For the time being, you do not need a referral from your veterinary surgeon if you want a behaviour consultation.

However...

Muriel will be applying for accreditation from the Association of Pet Behaviour Counsellors (APBC), and the Association for the Study of Animal Behaviour (ASAB), the two official regulatory bodies for qualified animal behaviourists in the UK.

Which means...

In the near future, the likelihood is that you will need to obtain a referral letter from your vet before an appointment can be made. This rule has been put in place to rule out a possible health problem in your pet being misdiagnosed as a behavioural one.

Additionally, pet insurance policies covering the cost of seeing a behaviourist usually require that you go to a qualified and/or accredited practitioner. If you plan to make a claim please check with your insurer whether you are covered while we wait for accreditation (qualification may be enough but we’re not sure on this).

In the meantime

Prices are kept reasonable and affordable (and always will be).

We don’t believe a simple problem that can be resolved in a short time should be priced the same as a complex issue that may take several weeks, therefore a fee of £40 is charged for an initial consultation where we will visit you, take a full history, assess the problem, decide on the best course of action and give you a better idea of cost - this initial assessment fee will be deducted from the total cost. Telephone consultations are also available.

We have a policy of accommodating pet owners experiencing financial restrictions as we feel all animals should be able to receive the treatment they need. If you would like help with behavioural issues but are finding it hard to meet the cost please feel free to contact the centre to discuss.

Covering Oxfordshire and neighbouring counties - but will travel anywhere in the UK as long as travel costs are covered.
